Other Information:William was educated at Methodist College, Belfast, and at Queens University, Belfast, where he qualified M.B. B.Ch in June 1914. He was then appointed Demonstrator in Anatomy at the university. He volunteered for war service and was gazetted temporary Lieutenant on 26th June 1915. He was attached to the 110th Field Ambulance and entered the war in France the following October 5th. On 27th June 1917, William was promoted to temporary Captain, and was also appointed Medical Officer to the 153rd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, and remained with them until he was killed by a shell. His Commanding Officer wrote: “A most promising, loyal, courageous and capable officer.” He was the son of George Cameron and Mary Finlay Hay (daughter of William Reid of Magheramorne) of 9 Cameron Street, Belfast.
