It has been a very sad time for us..... All the officers and men mourn his death very much, as he was liked by all. It is very painful for me to have to tell you, but Jim and I said that we would write to each other’s parents if anything happened to us. All the officers and men send their deepest sympathy to you in the loss of your brave lad.” James was the third son of Frederick William and Elizabeth [daughter of John Phythian] Gee of 4 Circular Drive, Port Sunlight, Birkenhead. He was also the brother of Pte Albert Edward Gee, R.A.M.C., who also died in the war.
