Other Information:Chris enlisted on 23rd November 1915. He was 21 years 11 months old and a lithographer plater by trade. He joined the R.A.M.C. at Aldershot the following day. Chris embarked on the SS Caesarea at Southampton on 9th May 1916 as part of O. C. Reinforcements and disembarked at Rouen, France on 10th May 1916. On 12th May 1916 he was posted to No. 1 General Hospital at Etretat. On 23rd October 1916 he was admitted to the same hospital with influenza and was discharged on 16th November 1916. On 7th June 1917 he joined the ‘base detail’ at Rouen and on 12th June 1917 was posted to the 72nd Field Ambulance. He was wounded in action on 17th June 1917 and died the following day. Chris was the adopted grandson of Walter Parnell Spelman and Alice Spelman of 146 Tamworth Street, Stretford, Manchester. (Information researched and kindly provided by Chris Ludlam)
