Other Information:John enlisted on 20th October 1915. He was 20 years and 2 months old, and a hairdresser by trade. He embarked at Southampton on 11th April 1916, then disembarking at Rouen the following day, entered the war in France on 12th April 1916. He was posted to serve with the 29th Field Ambulance, joining them in the field on 20th April 1916. On 27th July he was admitted into No 3 Casualty Clearing Station suffering with Myalgia. He was evacuated to No 1 Convalescent Depot, via No 29 Ambulance Train, on 8th August. On 5th September 1916 he joined Base Details on Rouen, who posted him for duty back with the 29th Field Ambulance, joining them in the field on 10th September 1916. He was transferred back to Base Details on 27th February 1917, who posted him for duty with the 141st Field Ambulance. On 6th August 1917 he was admitted 'sick' into the hospital of the 1st Field Ambulance. He was discharged to duty the hospital of the 1st Field Ambulance, and rejoined his unit on 8th August 1917. On 4th July 1919 he proceeded for dispersal and was struck off the strength of the unit. He returned to the UK on 3rd August 1919, when he was transferred to Class Z Reserves the following day.
