Other Information:John had already served with the colours as a stoker in the Navy. He was called up for war service on 31st October 1916, and joined the R.A.M.C. on 1st November. He was 27 years and 2 months old; was employed in the Shoe Trade as a Boot Merchant, and was living at 12 Ken Street, Northampton at the time. On 8th January 1917, he was posted to No 8 Coy, then on 3rd August joined as a reinforcement for overseas service. He embarked the next day at Folkestone and sailed to Boulogne, where he entrained for Rouen, entering the war in France on 6th August 1917. He was then posted to join the 35th Field Ambulance, in the field. John was killed at the Battle of the Dunes. He was the second son of William and Harriett (daughter of William Megeary) Starmer of 28A New Town Road, Northampton.
