Other Information:Albert was appointed by Middlesborough Borough Police on 25th January 1908 and by the Watch Committee on the 5th February 1908 as PC106. He was 5 ft, 9 3/4 inches tall. Albert started his 6 month probation period and was appointed 4th class PC on 22nd July 1908, he was promoted to a 3rd class PC on 15th July 1909. Albert was disciplined due to neglect of duty in failing to enter the record of his duties in the book specially provided for that purpose from the 31st August 1909 - 2nd September 1909, On the 16th September, he was severely reprimanded and cautioned by the WC. On the 27th June 1910, Albert was promoted to a 2nd class PC, and again on the 20th July 1911 to a 1st class PC. On the 31st July 1913, he was highly commended by Watch Committee for his commendable and meritorious conduct in stopping a runaway horse attached to a charabanc in Sussex Street and awarded a gratuity of one guinea. On the 3rd May 1915, Albert resigned to join HMF and enlisted into the RAMC, he entered France on the 11th August 1915. On the 9th May 1916 Albert was seriously wounded in France and reported as progressing satisfactorily in hospital. The Chief Constable reported to the WC on the 23rd November 1916 that Corporal Grimmitt RAMC has been awarded the MM for Bravery in the Field in France.
