Albert served as an acting lance corporal and acting corporal for a period during 1915-1917. He was with the 49th Field Ambulance up until the end of September 1918 when he returned to England due to a knee injury. He then remained in England until the end of the war with the 7th Coy at Devonport. Having survived the war he lived a good life dying of old age in 1998 aged 103. Albertís family found a French Croix de Guerre with his papers and service medals, which is assumed to have been his, but todate nothing has been traced to positively prove when or why this medal was awarded.
