Other Information:Alfred enlisted into the RAMC on 27th October 1914. He was 19 years and 8 months old. On 25th July 1915 he left England, and arriving on the 7th August, he entered the war in the Balkans. Alfred joined No 24 Casualty Clearing Station at Lemnos and served with this unit until 8th January 1916 when he reported for duty with the 89th Field Ambulance. He then joined No 17 General Hospital on the 25th February. On the 3rd July 1916, Alfred was posted to serve with the 2nd Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers. He was admitted to hospital on several occasions suffering from reoccurring malaria but remained with them until June 1918 when he was returned to England. Alfred was sent to France on 27th October 1918 and served in medical units in Dieppe and Etaples. He was then posted to No 56 General Hospital on 29th December and served with them until he was demobilised on 22nd May 1919. He was transferred to Class Z on 23 June 1919 and finally discharged on 31st March 1920. Alfred was the son of James Abbott of London.
