Other Information:William enlisted on 4th December 1915. He was 34 years and 1 day old; was a postman by trade, and was living at 29 Ellesmere Road, Shrewsbury at the time. He was posted to Army Reserve, and then mobilized on 4th April 1916 - joining for duty at Aldershot on the 6th. He left the UK for Salonika on 2nd June 1916 and arrived on the 23rd. On 7th October 1916 he gained the rank of acting Corporal. William went to Italy arriving in November 1917 and remained there until 26th June 1919. During this time he gained promotion to a full Corporal on 16th March 1918 and Serjeant shortly after on 1st May. He was transferred to class “Z” Army Reserve on 26th July 1919. William suffered from Malaria. He had his first attack on 1st July 1916, and then about four subsequent attacks between July 1916 and June 1918. He was treated in 29 Stationary Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Jones.
