Other Information:Eric received his early education in India, where his father was a medical officer. He later went to Aberdeen University, graduating M.B., Ch.B. in 1915. Whilst studying he had a reputation as an all-round sportsman, being an athlete who achieved a triple blue in hockey, tennis and cricket. He played hockey for Scotland in international matches in 1912, 1913, and 1914. For a brief period after he graduated, Eric was assistant to Dr A E Jones of Prestwick. He obtained a commission in the R.A.M.C. on 1st August 1915, and entered the war in Egypt on 25th September 1915. He also served in East Africa in charge of a hospital. It was first reported that Eric was missing, then official intimation of his death at Nanyati was received in August 1918. He was the son of Isaac Newton, [Captain in the Indian Medical Service] and Olivia Amanda Newton.
