Other Information:George was educated at Milton School Paisley and at the Glasgow High School then proceeded to Glasgow University to study medicine. He graduated M.B. Ch.B. in August 1914. For a time he was Resident Physician at the Royal Alexandra Infirmary Paisley, then in January 1915 he took a commission in the RAMC and went to the front with the 5th Battalion Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry in May. Lt McCallum was killed at Hooge on the 31st of July. The news of his death was so severe a shock to his father as to bring on a fatal illness. He was the son of Sir John McCullum of Messrs Isdale and McCullum Ltd soapmakers, and Emma McCallum of Thornby Park Terrace, Paisley. [Information and photograph: Special thanks to John Hamblin]
