Other Information:Alfred enlisted into the Medical Staff Corps on 30th June 1891 He was 20 years and 6 months old, and was a Porter by trade. He was Mentioned in Despatches on 4th September 1901 for special and meritorious services in London. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 13th March 1901, then gained promotion to the rank of Corporal in 1st January 1902. He also took part in the South African campaign from 1901 to 1902, gaining the Kings South African Medal with Clasps. He entered the war in France on 23rd August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 1st Bn. East Lancashire Regiment. He was discharged on 19th January 1918 due to sickness.
