Other Information:Alfred was educated at Campbell College, Belfast, and at Edinburgh University - entering in 1907, he graduated M.B., Ch.B. in July 1914. Whilst at Edinburgh he was president of the University Union and captain of the University Rugby football fifteen. He was also a well-known Rugby International, having played three-quarter for Ireland in three contests. He attended the O.T.C., Medical from June 1910 to November 1912 as a cadet, R.A.M.C., then took up a temporary commission at the rank of Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C. on 12th October 1914, being promoted to the rank of temporary Captain after a year’s service. He entered the war in Mesopotamia on 18th March 1915, but was invalided home in 1916. He then returned to active service in France, in 1916, as the Medical Officer of the Highland Light Infantry. On 1st January 1917 he took up a permanent commission in the R.A.M.C. serving as Lieutenant (temporary Captain). Alfred was dressing a brother officer’s wound when both were killed instantly by the bursting of a shell. He was the youngest son of the Rev. Dr. David Alexander Taylor, D.D., [ex-Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ireland] of "Eastbourne" Windsor Avenue North, Belfast.
