Other Information:Joseph Patrick Pegum was the sixth of seven children. His mother died when he was aged two, and his father died three years later. The children were brought up by their uncle, Stephen. Joseph attended the medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, in Dublin. He qualified as a doctor in 1916 and volunteered for the Army very soon afterwards. He was commissioned in the Royal Army Medical Corps, attached to the 7th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry, and was killed in action at Mitchell's Farm, near Zonnebeke, on 26th September, 1917, during the Battle of Polygon Wood.
