Other Information:Herbert enlisted on 13th January 1905. He was 19 years old, and was a Railway Porter by trade. He entered the war in France on 12th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 1st Bn. King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. On 16th September 1916 he was wounded in action. He was admitted into the Corps Main Dressing Station and was evacuated back to No 5 Casualty Clearing Station. The following day he was admitted into No 12 General Hospital, then evacuated back to the UK on 19th September 1916. In England he was admitted into the 5th Southern General Hospital. After recovering he was posted to serve in Salonika, serving there for the remainder of the war. In 1919 he was serving with the 79th Field Ambulance.
