Other Information:Andrew qualified M.B., Ch.B (Ed. & Dub.) in Edinburgh during 1912, and was in general practice from 1914 - 1939. During the early part of his career he worked as a Clinical Assistant at the Crichton Royal Institute, Dumfries and as a House Surgeon at York County Hospital. He was also employed at the Eskdale Infectious Disease Hospital and Thomas Hope Hospital. The citation for Andrew's Military Cross reads - "For gallantry and devotion to duty in the attack on Louvignies on 4th November 1918. He attended to the wounded under very heavy shellfire and subsequently removed them to a place of safety. Later, he went forward through a barrage and remained dressing them in the open for two hours until all had been attended to." [Information sources: The 1918 Medical Directory.
