Other Information:William was educated at Allen House, Guildford; at Marlborough and St John’s College, Cambridge (whilst here he was a member of the winning crew in the Junior Trial Eights); and at Bartholomew’s Hospital, London - entering as a student in 1916 and obtaining the diplomas of M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1918. After qualifying he served as a junior house-physician to Dr Drysdale at the hospital. William joined the Army, with a commission as Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C., gazetted 7th April 1918. He was attached to the 91st Field Ambulance until the beginning of August, then became the Medical Officer to the 16th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers. He was fatally wounded by a shell whilst at his aid post near Bray on 23rd August 1918, dying of his wounds in No 2 Red Cross Hospital, Rouen. He was the only son of the Rev. Charles William and Charlotte (daughter of James Duckett Jolliffe) of Chale Rectory, Isle of Wight.
