Other Information:Alexander was educated at Glasgow University, qualifying M.B., Ch.B.(Glas.) in 1908 and was house surgeon for three years at the Moorfields Eye Hospital before settling in Greenock where he was assistant ophthalmic surgeon to the Greenock Eye Infirmary. He also took the D.O.(Oxon.) in 1912. Alexander gained a temporary commission within the R.A.M.C. at the rank of Lieutenant and was later promoted to temporary Captain. He entered the war in France on 15th April 1915. He was wounded while rescuing an officer, for which he received the Croix-de-Guerre, and was later ophthalmic surgeon to the 3rd and 4th Armies. He was taken prisoner on 25th April 1918, whilst attached to the 19th Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers, and was repatriated on 30th December the same year. After the war, Alexander settled in Bath and was appointed ophthalmic surgeon to the Bath Eye Infirmary and Bath Educational Authority. He was well known in the West of England, not only professionally but as an exponent of Rugby football, in which he represented Bath and the county of Somerset. He was the son of N.
