Other Information:Archibald was educated at Penicuik Public School; at George Watson's College (for three years), leaving as Lizars prizeman for modern languages in 1908; and at Edinburgh University, where he gained medals in public health and mental diseases, and qualified M.B., C.h.B (Hons) in 1913. He received a King Edward VII. British - German scholarship, then for a year studied neurology and gynecology at Freiburg University. On the outbreak of war he returned home, and for a few months held the post of House Surgeon in King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor. He gained a commission within the R.A.M.C. in February 1915 and entered the war in France in July the same year, but was invalided home eighteen months later. Holding the rank of Captain, Archibald returned to the Front in September 1917 but was killed near the village of Mosselmarkt, Passchendaele, whilst tending a wounded officer. He was the son of Archibald Cowe, J.P. and Sarah Ann Murdoch Cowe, Ashville, Penicuik, Midlothian.
