Other Information:Cecil was educated at St Andrew's College, Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin, where he graduated M.B. While in college he was a good all-round athlete - he was a successful sprinter; he swam for the college team; and he played in a team which won the Leicester Cup for the Wanderers' Football Club in 1906. He received his degrees in medicine and surgery in 1906. Cecil gained a commission in the Medical Services on the 29th July 1907. In 1910, he was stationed in India and was there until 16th October 1914, when he left Bombay for East Africa. During this time he received his captaincy on 29th January 1911. He served with the Indian Expeditionary Force in British East Africa as Medical Officer to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He was killed whilst attending the wounded under shell fire. Cecil was the son of Henry, a member of the well-known firm of chemists, Messrs Hayes, Conyngham, and Co. of Dublin, and Mary Conyngham of 40 Waterloo Road, Dublin.
