Other Information:Nelson enlisted on 7th July 1913. He was 18 years and 1 month old, and was a Kitchen Lad by trade. He entered the war in France on 11th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 1st Bn. Middlesex Regiment. Nelson's name appears on a list of R.A.M.C. personnel who were taken captive up to & including 31st December 1914. His address was given as 7 St Martins Mansions, Ullswater Road, West Norwood, London - (kindly provided by Steve Mattocks). On 24th September 1915 he joined the hospital ship "Delta" at Southampton, serving with them until 6th June 1916 when he was posted to serve on the hospital ship "Neuralia". However he was posted again shortly after to serve with the hospital ship "Gloucester Castle" on the 10th July. On 30th September 1916 he was posted to serve with the Army Service Corps (35 Motor Ambulance Convoy). After a bout in hospital from 18th July 1918, he joined Base Details on 13th August, who posted him to serve with No 31 Sanitary Section on 30th August 1918. He remained with this unit until the end of the war, being demobilized on 31st January 1919 from the E.E.F. He was transferred to Army Reserve on 17th April 1919. He was the son of John and Eliza Doubleday.
