Other Information:Charles was educated at Mr Johnson’s School, Ashtead, Surrey; at Charterhouse School, Surrey from 1891; at Christ Church, Oxford from 1895 - where he gained a First Class Final Honours, School of Physiology; and St Thomas’s Hospital, London - entering in 1899, he graduated B.A., M.B., B.Ch. in 1902. He held appointments at the Blackheath Cottage Hospital, at the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond-Street, London, and at the General Hospital, Birmingham, and prior to joining up was in practice at Petworth, Sussex. He was accepted for a commission in the R.A.M.C. in 1916 and entered the war in France on 27th September the same year. He spent his entire period of service on front line duty, serving as medical officer to the Northumberland Fusiliers, then later transferring to become the medical officer of the Rifle Brigade. Charles had been recommended for the Military Cross for conspicuous courage and bravery in tending the wounded under heavy fire, and it was whilst doing this that he was severely wounded in the spine on 28th March 1918, near St Quentin. He died from his wounds at No 1 General Hospital. He was the eldest son of The Rev. Alfred Wilson, M.A., Vicar of Bedford Park, Chiswick, London, and Fanny Wilson; and the husband of Mary Barnes Wilson of The North House, Petworth, Sussex - married on 23 April 1908 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
