Other Information:John enlisted on 6th December 1911. He was a Gardener by trade. He entered the war in France on 13th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 2nd Bn. Royal Munster Fusiliers. On 7th January 1915 he was admitted into the hospital of the 1st Field Ambulance suffering with Enteritis. When discharged, on 13th January, he was posted to Base Details in Havre, who posted him to serve at No 2 General Hospital on the 27th January. On 9th February 1915 he re-joined Base Details who posted him to serve with No 4 Motor Ambulance Convoy, joining them in the field 5 days later, on the 14th February. After several bouts of illness and short stays in hospital, he was admitted again into the 3/2nd West Lancs Field Ambulance on 30th October 1917, suffering from D.A.H. with lung trouble due to exposure. He was evacuated back to No 62 Casualty Clearing Station, then onto No 18 General Hospital, who evacuated back to the UK on 16th November 1917. He was treated in the UK at the 1st Scottish General Hospital, Aberdeen and at Peterhead War Hospital. After recovery he was posted serve at the R.A.M.C. Depot, Blackpool. He was discharged under Para 392/XVIA/ K.R. on 21st March 1919.
