Other Information:William was educated at George Watson's College, entering in 1877, and at Edinburgh University. He qualified M.A. in 1890; B.Sc in 1893; then M.B., C.M. in 1895 - when he joined the Medical Services, Volunteers at the rank of Captain. He continued to study, graduating D.P.H. (Edin) in 1911 and M.R.C.P. IEdin) in 1919. William was promoted to Major in the R.A.M.C. (T.F.) in August 1914. He served in the war as the medical officer for the 6th Bn. Royal Scots and was later attached to the D.C.M.S. the Ministry of National Service and the Ministry of Pensions. He received the Territorial Decoration.
