Other Information:William was educated at Old Meldrum Public School; at Gordon's College; and at Aberdeen University - entering in 1910. As a final year student he served in 1914 under Sir H. M. W. Gray and Dr. Lister at a Red Cross Hospital in Wimereux, France. He returned to resume his studies in the beginning of 1915 and graduated M.B., Ch.B. in July 1915. William immediately joined the R.A.M.C. (T.F.) 2nd Highland Divisional Field Ambulance, at the rank of lieutenant, and was attached to the 2/2nd Highland Field Ambulance. He was promoted Captain on 12th February 1916. William was postedto serve as Medical Officer to the 321st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, then stationed at Heydon. In August 1917 he proceeded to Salonika, first serving with No 63 General Hospital and later with the 81st Field Ambulance. At many points of the Salonika front he did advanced dressing station work, and was finally posted as regimental Medical Officer to the 9th Bn. South Lancashire Regiment. William was reported missing in the casualty list published on 5th October 1918. In the same list of 19th March 1919 he listed as having been killed. It is believed he was killed while dressing wounded in the final rush against the Bulgars. He was the son of Alexander S Wilson, an Insurance manager, of 304 Great Western Road, Aberdeen; and the husband of Annie Margaret Barclay Wilson of 13 The Square, Old Meldrum, Aberdeen.
