Other Information:James enlisted on 29th July 1906. He was 18 years and 8 months old; and was a Coal Miner by trade. He entered the war in France on 14th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 3rd Bn. Worcestershire Regiment, serving on water duties. On 5th February 1916 he was admitted into the 75th Field Ambulance suffering from papilloma, left foot. He was evacuated to No 1 Canadian General Hospital, then back to Ireland on the hospital ship "Oxfordshire" on 24th February 1916. On 27th May 1916 he joined the hospital ship "Brighton" for duty. He was appointed acting Lance Corporal on 8th June 1917, and subsequently appointed to the nursing section of the Corps on the 11th. On 30th September 1918 he proceeded to Aldershot to the Discharge Centre to appear before a medical board with a view to be released from the army for coal mining. He was transferred to Class "P" Army Reserve on 1st October 1918.
