Other Information:John was educated at University College School, Bedford and at St Bartholomew's Hospital - entering as a student in 1910, he obtained the diplomas of M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P. in 1915. During the same year he entered the R.A.M.C. as a Lieutenant. He was killed as a result of a torpedo attack by German Submarine U C74 on the H.M. Hospital Ship ‘Arcadian’, at 36.50 N, 24.50 E in the Cycladic Islands in the Aegean Sea en route from Salonika to Alexandria. John was the son of Mr and Mrs Smith of 3 Woodstock Road, Croydon.
