Other Information:Thomas was educated privately and at the London Hospital, qualifying M.B., in 1893 and M.D. in 1898. He began practice at Buxton and Bitterne, Hants, where he held several public appointments. When war was declared he was in practice in Wimpole-Street, London. He took up a temporary commission within the R.A.M.C. on 1st June 1915. For a while he served in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, then transferred to the recruiting medical board at Bristol. He then returned to Netley and volunteered for transport work, first serving on the hospital ship “Carisbrook Castle, then transferred to the hospital ship “Salta”. He was onboard the H.S. “Salta” when she struck a mine and sank half a mile north of the Whistle Bouy, Havre on 10th April 1917. Thomas was the son of William and Mary Ann Hodson of Downhills, Middlesex; and the husband of Margaret Mary Mallalien, the daughter of Dr Samuel Hyde of Buxton, Derbyshire - married in 1906, they had two daughters and one son.
