Wilfred entered the war on 2nd October 1915 on board a hospital ship. He died when serving on H.M.H.S. "Salta" when it struck a mine and sank half a mile north of the Whistle Bouy, Havre, on 10th April 1917. He was the son of William and Amie Hicks; and the husband of Alice M Hicks of "Beth-Shan" Woodend, Victoria, Australia. He was a member of the Salvation Army.
