Other Information:Thomas enlisted on 22nd August 1914, he was 29 years old and a Baker by trade. On the 12th April 1915, he was appointed Lance Corporal and then on 9th August 1915 was promoted to Corporal, he was then posted to serve with the 69th Field Ambulance. He embarked at Southampton on 24th August 1915, entering the war in France the next day. Thomas was sentenced to 10 days Field Punishment No 1, for being drunk when on active service, his rank was also reduced to 'Private' again. On 23rd April he was admitted into his unit suffering from choroiditis, he was transferred to No 15 Casualty Clearing Station and was taken back to No 5 General Hospital on No 11 Ambulance Train. He stayed at No 5 General Hospital from 25th April 1916 for two days, when he returned to England on the Hospital Ship "St Andrew". On 26th January 1918, he was serving with No 20 Coy. Thomas was aboard R.M.S. Leinster when it was torpedoed and died at sea. He was the husband of Rosanna Bernard of 9 St. Declan Road, Marino, Dublin.
