Other Information:Nona was a qualified doctor of the Medical Officer Reserve Corps, U.S.A., who volunteered to serve with the British Army during the Great War. He studied medicine at the University of Tennessee Medical School, graduating in 1915. He had a brief internship in Memphis, Tennessee, before setting up a medical practice back in Kentucky. In September 1917 he was instructed to report in person to the Army Medical School in Washington D.C. before being posted overseas to join the B.E.F. On 25th April 1918 he was serving with the 112th Field Ambulance, when he was ordered to report to the Assistant Director of Medical Services, 11th (Northern) Division. The A.D.M.S. posted him to serve with the 35th Field Ambulance. On 3rd August 1918 he was transferred to the 59th Bde, R.F.A. to serve as their Medical Officer and was struck off the strength of 35th FIeld Ambulance. He was posted to serve as M.O.i/c 58th Bde, R.F.A., and to arrange for the sick of the 11th Divisional Artillery to be seen at Haulchin on 28th March 1919. He was granted three days’ leave to Paris from 21st April 1919, and shortly after his return on the 29th April, he was sent a few miles north to Raismes to be in medical charge of troops at Raismes, Anzin and St Amand. After the war he returned to the U.S.A. and set up a medical practice in Keiser, Arkansas in 1919 before moving to Wilson, Arkansas in 1924, where he practised medicine until at least the 1950s.
