Other Information:William enlisted into the R.A.M.C. on 2nd February 1912. He was 18 years and 3 months old and a Fish Hawker by trade. He attended the the School of Instruction, R.A.M.C. at Aldershot on the 26th July 1912 and then saw active service in India from 22nd October 1913 - 5th February 1914. He returned to England but was posted to serve with No 3 General Hospital at the outbreak of war, embarking at Southampton on 14th August 1914, he entered the war in Rouen the next day. William was sent to S.S. “Southern Coast” from 6th September 1914 - 16th September 1914 for temporary duty. He also served for one day at the Trench Hospital, St Nazaire on 20th November. He was promoted to Corporal on 6th February 1915. On 21st July 1915, William was transferred to serve with No 4 Field Ambulance. He was admitted into his unit as a patient suffering from influenza on 12th October 1915, not recovering he was sent to No 2 General Hospital and then transferred to England on the Hospital Ship “St David” on the 24th, diagnoses was now bronchitis. On 25th February 1916, William’s medical report stated he had Tuberculosis. He was discharged “No longer physically fit for war service on 20th March 1916. Not recovering from his illness, William died at his family home. He was the son of Robert and Agnes Martin of 6 Sea View Terrace, Brixham.
