Other Information:John qualified M.B., B.Ch, B.A.O. in 1894 and M.D. in 1895. He was consultant physician at Mercer's Hospital, Dublin and the Chief Medical Officer to the Guinness Brewery in Dublin. He served as a Temporary Major in the R.A.M.C., joining General Hospital No 83 at Wimereux in 1917. John was awarded the Life-Saving medal of the Order of St John of Jerusalem and the Special Service Cross of the British Red Cross Society (instituted 1917) for his humanitarian work on behalf of the St John Ambulance Brigade during the Easter Rising in Dublin, April 1916.
