Other Information:Reece had lived at 31 Barker Street, Merrington Lane, Spennymoor with his wife Annie (died 24.4.1960 aged 99 years) and children; Charles Henry (died 8.5.1960 aged 63 years), Edith (died 10.7.1968 aged 70 years) and Ethel Annie (died 6.3.1984 aged 82 years) all were born in Spennymoor. He was employed as a coal miner (hewer) when he joined the army and the family were living at 11 Ruby Terrace, Tudhoe Grange, Spennymoor. It is recorded that Reece died at home on the 11th May 1916 aged 53 years, however the Burial Registration Book for the district records that he was 45 years of age and died at Aldershot, and his body was returned to Spennymoor from Aldershot on the 14th May. On his headstone his age is 53 years which is the correct age. Reece was buried in a family plot (Grave reference A ‘C’ 704), the Reverend Douglas Purch in attendance. He was awarded a 1914 Star, BWM & Victory medal for his war service on the 9th October 1922. His Medal Index Card records his Christian name as Rees, however on the card it is recorded that an application was made for a replacement of the 1914 Star and on the 31st July 1923 a duplicate 1914 Star was issued. Reece was the son of Mary Jones. [Information researched and kindly provided by John & Jim Grainger]
