Other Information:Charles was educated at St Edwards School Oxford and the London Hospital, qualifying M.R.C.S. [Eng] and L.R.C.P. [Lond] in 1906 and F.R.C.S in 1911. He became Assistant Surgeon at the South Devon & East Cornwall Hospital; Consultant Surgeon at Paignton & District Hospital; and Assistant Surgeon of the East London Hospital for Children. He was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and was a member of the British Medical Association. Some of his publications included ‘Acute Epiphysites’ - British Medical Journal 1912; ‘Observation on Treatment of Gunshot Wounds of Abdomen’ (jointly) - Ib. in 1917; ‘Strange Umbil, Hernia’ - Ib. in 1919; Civil Lessons of the War for Treatment of Fracture of Skull’ - Ib.; and ‘Very early case of Ileal Intussuscept following severe Trauma’ - The Lancet in 1919. Charles gained a commission within the R.A.M.C. as temporary Lieutenant on 5th October 1914. He entered the war in France on 16th February 1915 and was promoted to temporary Captain on 5th October 1915. He gained the rank of acting Major 1st July 1918. His obituary advises that most of his service was spent in France, where he was employed as a surgical specialist. At the close of the war he was commanding the limb fitting hospital at Roehampton with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. After the war Charles settled in Plymouth.
