Other Information:Hugh was educated at Falkirk School, and Edinburgh University - entering as a student of Arts in 1909, he gained an M.A. in 1912. He enlisted into the R.A.M.C. on 8th September 1914. He was 23 years and 1 month old and a school teacher by trade. He was promoted to Corporal on 20 February 1915 on the same day he embarked on S.S. "Queen Empress" at Southampton, then disembarking at Harve the next day he entered the war in France on 21st February 1915. On 3rd March 1916, Hugh was admitted into No 10 Stationary Hospital suffering with Pharyngitis, and remained in hospital until 14th April. He was then transferred to serve with the 2nd Bn, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders on 3rd June 1916, under the service number S/16475, and reverted back to a Private. He became attached to the 8th Bn. Black Watch 10th July 1916 and was killed in action three days later. Hugh was the son of Henry and Janet Rule of 13 James Street, Falkirk.
