Other Information:Herbert was baptised on 8th January 1879 at Holy Trinity Church, Oxford. In the 1911 census he is listed as a Bookseller's Assistant, aged 32, and living with his parents at 4 Luther Terrace, St. Ebbe, Oxford. He enlisted into the R.A.M.C. on 2nd March 1916. According to his medical records he had an artificial right eye. He entered the war in France on 17th May 1917, and served there until 11th December 1917, when he returned to England. On 5th September 1918 he was posted to Italy, serving there until 20th May 1919. He was demobilized on 19th June 1919. On 18th April 1922 he married Elsie Ann Thomas at St Michael's, Oxford. They had 2 sons. He died at 19 Edward Road, Kennington, Oxford. He was the youngest son of William David and Elizabeth Rowles (nee Wilson).
