Other Information:Ernest was educated at Wesley College, and at the Royal College of Surgeons, Dublin, qualifying L.R.C.P & S.I. and L.M. in 1894. He entered the Medical Services at the rank of Lieutenant on 28th January 1898, then gained promotion to the rank of Captain on 28th
January 1901. In 1905 he took a diplomas in public health [D.P.H.]. On 28th October 1909 he received further promotion to the rank of Major. At the outbreak of war, Ernest went to Burscough, where he formed No 10 Stationery Hospital on the 5th August 1914. He became the Commanding Officer and travelled with the unit from Southampton to Havre, entering the war in France on 15th August 1914. On 1st March 1915 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from the army with pay on 17th March 1921. He was the son of Edward and Maria Joynt Bourke; and the husband of Rachel, daughter of R Walters - they had two sons.
