Other Information:William gained his medical training at Queen’s College, Dublin, qualifying M.B,, R.U.I. in 1888. He gained a commission within the Medical Services at the rank of Captain on 30th January 1896. He served at the N. W. Frontier, India from 1897 to 1898, volunteering for Plague Duty on the first appearance of Plague in Bombay, and was employed as District Plague Officer in Bombay City in 1897. On 30 July 1904 he gained promotion to the rank of Major. In 1908 he gained the diploma in public health [D.P.H.]. On the outbreak of war william was serving in West Africa. He returned to the UK, and on 7th August 1914 he formed, and became the Officer Commanding of, No 5 Stationary Hospital. He travelled to France with the unit, entering the war on 14th August 1914. On 1st March 1915 he gained promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
