Other Information:When Robert applied to join the police he was a single man, occupation farm labourer employed by Francis Turner, Upper Nesbitt, Ancrum.� He lived at Upper Nesbitt, Ancrum. Robert married while a serving officer, details not recorded on his police file. He was appointed by Gateshead Borough Police on 18th October 1907 and sworn in the same day.�He lived at 57 Claremont North Avenue, Gateshead. (a police house)
On the 1st May 1915 Robert resigned to join HMF and enlisted with the RAMC, he entered France on 11th August 1915. The 1918 Absent Voters list has his address as 199 Coatsworth Rd, Gateshead.� (when police officers resigned to go to war they had to vacate the police house). Robert was discharged from the army on 21st September 1918 as physically unit for war service, he was awarded an army pension.
