George lived in Aberdeen. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on the 5th April 1919. When the enemy attacked Sred-Mekrenya he organised a party of stretcher bearers and took them out under heavy fire to collect wounded. He continued at this work for a considerable time, and was the means of saving several lives. George received the TFWM.
