George attested on 1st November 1913. He was 18 years and 7 months old and was a clerk by trade. He entered the war in Gallipoli on 13th June 1915 as part of a draft of reinforcements with the 2/3rd East Lancs Field Ambulance then transferred to the 1/3rd East Lancs Field Ambulance in the field on 28th June. He was admitted into his unit with a wound to his chest but had already died. He was the son of Mrs Katie Black of 10 Luke Street, Cheetham Hill, Manchester.
