Other Information:William enlisted into the R.A.M.C. (T.F.) on 24th November 1914 and was embodied into the 3rd East Lancashire Field Ambulance. He was 19 years and 7 months old, and was living at 30 Herbert Street, Morton, Manchester at the time. He left the UK for active service abroad on 28th July 1915, and according to his Medical Index Card, entered the war in Egypt on 11th August 1915. He is in a group photograph of the 2/3rd East Lancashire Field Ambulance, 'C' Section, which states he was onboard H.M. Transport 'Royal Edward' at the time it was sunk by the German submarine U-14 on 13th August 1915 - William survived. He eventually arrived at Gallipoli and was attached to the 1/8th Bn. Manchester Regiment. William was released from active service abroad due to disability (nervous). He embarked at Alexandria on 19th October 1916, then arrived back in the UK on 3rd November 1916 and taken on strength for munitions work. He was finally disembodied from service on 4th January 1919. William was the son of John Johnson, at the same address as above.
