Other Information:James entered the war in France on 11th August 1915 with 141st Field Ambulance. On 5 November 1916 he was admitted 'sick', and transferred to the hospital of 45th Field Ambulance. On 27th July 1917 he proceeded from the 141st Field Ambulance to report to the Officer Commanding, 1st Bn. Loyal North Lancs Regiment for water duties. He rejoined the 141st Field Ambulance on 5th February 1918. On 26th May 1919 he proceeded to Concentration Camp for dispersal and was struck off the strength of the unit.
