Other Information:William enlisted on 31st October 1906. He was 18 years and 9 month old at the time. He entered the war in France on 16th August 1914, as part of the Regimental Medical Officer's team for the 41st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. On 21st March 1915 he transferred to serve with the 4th Field Ambulance. After a short time in hospital he was sent to Base Details, who transferred him to the A.D.M.S., 9th Division, who posted him to serve with the 28th Field Ambulance on 15th December 1915. On 18th March 1916 he was transferred to serve with the 8th Field Ambulance. On 12th December 1916 he was attached to the 42nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. On 25th May 1918 he was transferred back to the 8th Field Ambulance. On 3rd August 1918 he was wounded in action, suffering a shell wound to his forehead but returned to duty to same day. He reported sick at the Reception Hospital, Matilda, Greenock on 11th October 1918 but he was diagnosed as being fit to travel and was ordered to rejoin his unit at once. He rejoined the 8th Field Ambulance on 15th October 1918. He was discharged from the Colours on 31st March 1920.
