Other Information:Arthur enlisted on 11th December 1915, he was 19 years and 7 months old at the time. He was sent to Army Reserve but mobilized on 3rd January 1916. He sailed from Southampton on 15th March, arriving at Rouen the next day, he entered the war in France on the 16th March 1916. From 12th May, Arthur was attached to the Assistant Inspector of Drafts at Harfleur, and was then posted to serve with No 6 Stationary Hospital at Havre on the 4th June. By the 19th, however, he was admitted into the hospital and then transferred to 7 Canadian General Hospital. On 4th July he was sent to Base Details in Rouen after convalescing at No 3 convalescence Depot. On 1st August 1916, Arthur was sent to serve with the 6th Field Ambulance, joining them in the field. However, on the 18th he was admitted into his unit suffering from the same complaint. He was then evacuated down the chain and by the 9th October arrived back in England, where he had 2 operations. He was then posted to serve on the Eastern Front and was on board the Hired Transport "Transylvania", when it was proceeding to Egypt with reinforcements, and was sunk by a torpedo by the German U-boat U-63 off Cape Vado, a few kilometres south of Savona. Arthur was the son of Tom and Alice Anne Turner of 12 New Square, Birch Street, West Gorton, Manchester.
