He recorded in his small blue 'Prayers for Soldiers' book: Pte J Vidler 6289 "A" Company, R.A.M.Corps Aldershot April 11th 1912. His Duty Book has entries between Dec 1st to Dec 19th 1918; he records his visits to various Railheads located at Fives, Porte des Postes, Porte D'Arras and Ascq in France. He emigrated to Western Australia in 1922.
