Additional information for:
Reginald Gordon

Submitted by Dr. Gwendolynn Heley Date Added: Friday 14 February, 2014
Transcript of letter from Reginald Gordon Hill's sister Murial describing the death of her brother in October 1917:

" ... we heard by phone that he had been killed outright by a H. E. shell. We heard the details from one of the officers in his mess. Their detachment was well behind the lines but the German gunners had evidently got the range. As they sat at dinner news came that there had been some casualties. Gordon hurried out & while attending to the wounded he sent an orderly to get some equipment at an aid post. The man was a long time returning so Gordon went himself & was hit & was killed on the very spot where the first shell had landed. His brother officers actually saw it happen & assured us that death must have been instantaneous".

Thank you for your work on this memorial.

Dr. Gwendolynn Heley
