John Robert Williams moved to Brynteg Wrexham in 1899 where his father
worked in the mines. On leaving school he followed his father down the pit. He enlisted in Wrexham in 1914 and having been a St John's Ambulance man found himself in the 92 Field Ambulance, RAMC in which he served throughout the war. In 1917 at the Battle of Nieuport (the first time the Germans used mustard gas) he was awarded the Military Medal for Conspicuous Gallantry. Unfortunately it played havoc with his lungs and caused him problems for the rest of his life. He married Madge Elizabeth Davies in 1925 and lived in Gwersyllt. In 1939 they moved to Little Sutton on the Wirral where he lived until his death in 1962, aged 70, he was cremated at Landican Crematorium Birkenhead.
