Born on 23 November 1890 in Fort Elizabeth, County Cork, Ireland, to Michael Doran (Sergeant Royal Artillery Staff) and Mary Cooney.
Resided in Summerhill, Nenagh, County Tipperary, in 1906 and became a chemist in County Galway.
His sister, Mary Agnes, was the wife of Regimental Sergeant Major Oscar Percy Hennessy, M.C. Recipient, King's Liverpool Regiment.
His brother, Frederick Walter Doran, also served in the First World War and later became a Constable in the Liverpool Police, where he was killed while on duty during the bombing blitz of the Second World War on 8-9 May 1941.
Edward was only 27 years of age at the time of his death. His service number was 57953/5795.
